RAWS:LA comes to Del Monte Speakeasy, Venice, CA 9.22.2015

RAWS is an intimate party held in a small club in Tokyo, where underground beat-heads unite. After a live performance by a jazz band which gets recorded, the beat-makers have an hour and a half to chop up the freshly recorded sample, flip it, and make a beat right there on the spot.

Grown Kids Radio and Chicago’s cuerators.com are proud to present RAWS:LA, the second of two US installments of the RAWS concept.

Live music:

Makaya McCraven (International Anthem)

Beat-heads:

Lanzo (Natural Selection/ Blvnt Records)

Swarvy (Street Corner Music/ Paxico)

Yagi (El Sereno)

DJs:

BMajic (SF) and King Hippo (Chicago)

GKR @ SXSW 2014

Damn, what a night at Kingdom Nightclub in Austin, Texas during the cusp between SXSW interactive and music 2014!

Collaborators included DJ Qbert’s label, Thud Rumble, along with Rox Collection, and the music production institute known as Dubspot.  Ca$h4gold (Lou Lou of Thievery Corporation & MS. G) opened the night and B Majic followed their lead.  J Boogie & Chicken George joined forces and warmed up the floor with house and midtempo grooves.  Jo Def represented LA’s up and coming label, Soulection and shook things up as the night progressed. The crowd grew rowdy as 2 x DMC champion, DJ Shiftee confidently exhibited his turntablism skills, just in time for DJ Qbert.  The crowd intensely observed  the 3 x DMC champion, as he meticulously displayed his craft.  Zuzuka Poderosa & Nego Mozambique closed the night and kept the energy level high with their signature Carioca Bass. Vibes were on point.
